Ethiopia is a country with rich histories on the African content and it is a land of contrast and surprise. It is the land of fabled Queen of Sheba and home of the Ark of the Covenant. Many archeological studies show that prehistoric men lived in eastern Africa and Ethiopia is believed to be the home of the first Homo sapiens. These anatomically modern humans lived in Ethiopia 160,000 years ago. There had been trade links between ancient Egypt and the Ethiopia for more than 5,500 years as evidenced by Ethiopian gold in Egypt. Five thousand years ago, there were regular mentions of Ethiopia in Egyptian records. The first historical kingdom in Ethiopia, founded 3,000 years ago, and it was called the Axumite Kingdom.
The northern part of Ethiopia is home to age-old monuments and these heritages situated on the ”Historic Route” and it has the lion’s share of the country’s tourist attractions. Three of the seven world heritage sites of Ethiopia the medieval castles of Gonder, the Simien Mountains National Park and the Rock Hewn Churches of Lalibela – one of the eight wonders of the world.
